Description
The Karen Horney Clinic is pleased to offer an internship for clinical psychology doctoral students. This program is for students interested in psychodynamic and psychoanalytic work. The Karen Horney Clinic’s mission is to offer low-cost psychoanalytic and psychotherapeutic services to individuals from all backgrounds and to provide training and opportunities for advanced mental health professionals. We are a psychodynamic clinic that focuses on long-term psychotherapy.
Clinical Experience
The Clinic serves a wide range of patients in terms of demographics and diagnosis. This is primarily an adult-orientated program; however opportunities for child and adolescent work may be available. Each psychotherapy session is 45 minutes in length and patients are seen at least once per week. Interns are expected to have a minimum of 20 sessions scheduled per week. The Clinic is open Monday – Friday 9am – 9pm and interns can schedule patients at their convenience. However, one evening until 9pm per week is required. In addition, patient hours must not conflict with didactic hours.
Didactics and Supervision
Beyond weekly individual and group supervision interns attend a psychodynamic psychotherapy course, trauma class, staff meetings, and rounds. Didactics and group supervision take place Wednesdays 10am – 3pm. There is an additional Case Seminar provided on Thursdays 1:15pm – 2:15pm. Therefore, there are about 5 hours of didactics and supervision each week.
Benefits
A stipend will be provided. Interns receive 15 days of leave for vacation, sick days, personal time, and holidays per fiscal year. No additional benefits. We are an OMH certified Article 31 clinic. Interns might have the opportunity to continue at the Karen Horney Clinic for their Post-Doctoral hours upon graduation. There may be the option to complete the internship on a half-time basis over the course of 2 years.
